I wish I could deploy WinZip or Adobe Acrobat with WUS.

At present, WSUS is only going to support a very limited set of applications. Please open the architecture so that customers can get their own patches added.

I wish you can just click a button to remotely install an update in real time directly to the client.

It is unlikely that Microsoft will include this functionality in the base WSUS product as it would directly compete with some of their other products.  However, with WSUS 3 they have released an API which allows you to do everything the console does as well as publish your own updates in a process referred to as Local Publishing.  You can use the API to roll your own solution or check out the links section for some programs that already do so.

Resolution for WUS RTM

This feature did not get included WSUS version 1, but is under consideration for future versions.
