Report WSUS Bugs


If you want to provide Microsoft with feedback on WSUS, file a bug report. Also, consider adding any feature requests to WSUS Wish List.

To file a bug with WSUS

  1. Go to the BetaPlace Web site.
  2. Sign in with a Microsoft .NET Passport account. If you don't have a Passport account, you can create one.
  3. In the Guest ID box, type WUSOEPPart. The Guest ID is case sensitive.
  4. Click the WSUS Open Evaluation Program link.
  5. Click the Submit a Bug link.
  6. Note: If you are a WSUS technical beta tester, or a member of the WSUS TAP, login to the beta site with your Passport then navigate to the relevant programme to file your bug.

Please be sure to attach the following files to your bug report:

WSUS server logs:

The following log files are needed for investigation. They are located in %programfiles%Microsoft Windows Update ServicesLogFiles

  • SoftwareDistribution.log (contains information about operation of wus server)
  • WUSSetup_1234.log (contains server setup information)
  • WUSSetupMsi_1234.log (contains server setup information)
  • WUSCa_1234.log (contains server setup information)
  • WUSMSDESetup_1234.log (database server setup log)

WSUS client logs:

  • %systemroot%/WindowsUpdate.log ( contains client activity log)
