Working with WSUSUTIL

WSUSUTIL is a tool installed by default when you install WSUS.  You can use to carry out some management tasks on your WSUS installation from the command line. There is no 64-bit version of WSUSUTIL.EXE, it runs only on a 32-bit platform.

WSUSUTIL.EXE is installed in Update Services\Tools folder on the WSUS installation drive. WSUSUTIL.EXE uses HTTP to get approvals and CIFS (normal file sharing) to copy updates from a remote SUS installation.

To copy updates from a remote computer, WSUSUTIL.EXE requires Read permissions on the Content folder and all its subfolders.

You must be a member of the local Administrators group on the WSUS server to import approvals or content from SUS. These operations can only be run from the WSUS server itself.

The command line options FOR WSUSUTIL.EXE are discussed in detail in the WUS Deployment Guide.
