This page serve as a diary for the WSUS Wiki site. As you add or update content, if you have questions, or even delete content, post here to explain why. Also you can use this as a place to discuss WSUS WIKI. For an index of all earlier diary entries, see WSUS Wiki Diary Index. Sunday March 05 David Dehghan Guys - Any comments on this thread? http://forums.susserver.com/index.php?showtopic=458 Tuesday March 15 skatterbrain I made some minor spelling corrections on the WSUS Deployment Guide page and added three bulleted items (Network Bottlenecks, Update Types, Client Types) Also updated WSUS Before You Deploy page to add two bulleted items. Monday March 21 David Dehghan So folks at edime changed the site url slightly prematurely. But that is ok. For now none of the external links are broken because there is a dummy site under the old URL. In the next few days we need to do a couple of things in order to finish the site migration without a problem. Monday March 21 skatterbrain I went through and edited "WUS" to say "WSUS" wherever it appeared to make sense and/or was overlooked. If I went too far, roll me back or send a virtual b-slap and I'll back off. :) [[thomaslee] ]In a couple of places, I've clarified things - WUS Beta 2 is not WSUS <grin>. SO to ensure things are clear - where the text is talking about WUS Beta 2, I've tried to make clear that this may be different from WSUS RC (or even WSUS RTM). In a number of cases, we'll need to wait till the RC is out to make some chanages (e.g. to how the WSUS product actually works). I can't wait for the RC! David Dehghan Name change status: Done:

Tuesday March 22 Watch out for RC install issues and bugs and keep refering users form newsgoup here. Yesterday I searched entired OEP news group for keyword editme.com to see how many times we have had people refere to wiki. Unfortunately it was prettly low. We can do better in that department. Wednesday March 23 David Dehghan I just saw this comment: I think he is right. I certainly have contributed to that problem. ;-( I don't know what I was thinking. I just replaces WUS with WSUS. Also - PLEASE don't delete a page and create new one for the same topic. This will delete all the page history. I can rename a page with the administrator account. This will conserve the page history. just let me know what pages to rename. Thursday March 24 David Dehghan OK. I think the way to fix the confusion with information about B2 vs RC is to get rid of Beta2 information that is not relevant any more. No one is going to see beta 2 code again. So lets get rid of that info that no one is going to need. for example B2 bug reports. If they are fixed in RC, which i hope they are ;-) lets delete that info. I cleaned up this page. more cleaning is needed Known WSUS Issues Friday March 25Thomas Lee I agree with removing B2 stuff. As for the bugs, there is one not fixed in RC1, and another new one (which was a bug in B2 but I never posted it here). I'm in agreement we should remove B2 stuff sooner rather than later. NB: we'll have a similar issue at RTM). Marked a couple of pages for deletion, including david's and athif's suggestions at the wiki menu - which has now been adopted! Tidied up a few more pages. Saturday March 26 Thomas Lee Updated known issues page. I added a few known issues, based on my closed bug reports <grin>. We should consider how to describe these though. The column width issue, for example, is a minor one, but one folks will encounter. Maybe we need two types of issues: actual bugs in the RC prodcuct (that are to be fixed for RTM), vs stuff that just works that way (eg wuauclt.exe gives no output, or the column widths issue). I continue the hunt for WUS stuff for removal! In terms of the known issue pages, I'm moving B2 issues to either the 'resolved' list or to the 'known issues with RC' list. Thinking about it, we should gradually remove all B2 content. What is a reasonable time period for this. Sunday March 27 I am glad to be awarded as MVP on Thu, 24 Mar 2005. Ok. I have been very busy for the past couple of days and couldn't take a look at the wiki. Thomas & David thanks for the whole re-vamp and I think more than 60% of job is done. Ok quickly, can we have a list of TO DO's so that I can share the load. Yes, I think we should remove the B2 content as well as add content related to RC. To me the best practice would be to identify the content to be removed, then add the new content related to RC & then remove the B2 content so that we give all the content related to RC prior to deleting the content in B2. And the same exercise at the time of RTM. David Dehghan Athif, Congratulations ;-). You can help on the installation guide. The sceen shots and the text should be updated. Please use PNG file format for the screen shots. (they are small and readable) I added a number of new pages for Best practices. As this wiki matures best practices become more and more valuable. It is very hard for Microsoft to comeup with these best practices. Because we don't know numerous the configurations and the environments that customers are operating under. So lets get the users to share their best practices. It would be interesting to see how the best practices section develops. It is much harder type of content to develop. Monday March 28 Tuesday March 29 Mohammed Athif Khaleel I have added a couple of new pages and some new content; http://wsus.editme.com/ConfirmedWSUSBugs David Dehghan What to see something cool? look at the attachment on this page http://wsus.editme.com/WikiStats I wrote a tool that searched all the wiki sites on editme and created a file for each of them. I wanted to look and see what was the biggest site on editme.com and how did we compare to them. Take a look at the content of that zip file and sort it by size. ;-) Wednesday March 30 David Dehghan I got a DNS name for us. http://www.wsuswiki.com/ cool eh? Now we can refer to our site with a more professional URL. And if editme goes out of business we can take our wiki to a new service and redirect the DNS to that new place. i was allways unfomfortable having editme in our url. you can start using this url in blogs or news group postings. Did you guys look at the zip file that I posted last night? It is interesting to see what other wiki sites have done. Thursday March 31 Mohammed Athif Khaleel Hey david, that's cool man. I got an index of all the links of WSUS Wiki and thats one thing I wanted. New DNS Name is perfect. Why dont we use the new site http://www.wsuswiki.com/ instead of http://wsus.editme.com ? What do you think? I prefer to go with http://www.wsuswiki.com/ Added to [[Confirmed WSUS Issues]] Added to Cloned or Imaged PCs in WSUS Server FAQ Added new page Sql Date Time Overflow Added more new [[Confirmed WSUS Issues]] The new name is cool - I'll blog it right away!! U Also http://wsuswiki.com works too. COOL! FWIW: I've updated the menu to now point to www.wsuswiki.com Last Modified 4/5/05 4:02 PM | Hide Tools |
This site was absolutely great until someone went back and used some kind of spell checker to find WUS and replace it w/ WSUS everywhere! This is completely confusing now and should be undone.
Older info should remain WUS B2
The new version WSUS is a different program. The data cannot be converted from the older version therefore older bugs and problems do not apple to the newer version.
And the newer version WSUS does have a bug, specifically w/ IBM T42p.
